Lakeville United Methodist Church The Pastor's Corner Rev. Mark Garavaglia, Pastor What Is Your Dream?
School is in full swing and we are looking towards the holiday season. But first, we come to Halloween. If you study the origins of Halloween you will find that it is derived from All Hallows Eve. This day was used to honor the saints that fought the good fight and went on before us. The bible does not directly address Halloween but we can make an informed decision as Christians and as adults. We know that the secular society has taken this holiday to a new low and dark level. There is no need for you to get caught up in the "bad" positions of this day. Parents, the decision is up to you. If you decide Halloween is something fun for your children, make sure they are kept far away from the evil aspects of Halloween. When believers participate in anything (even Halloween), their attitudes, dress, and behavior should glorify Christ (Philippians 1:27). If we as Christians ignore what is going on around us there is no way we can affect or improve it. Jesus walked, talked, ate, slept with the sinners. Why? To change the world one person at a time. He came for the lost, not the found. Go out and enjoy and look for the lost in this world. They are out there. Go and be the light of Christ to the world.
