Lakeville United Methodist Church
Church History
The congregation of the Lakeville Methodist Church was founded in 1833 in the home of William Hagerman.
Many Indians also attended the services held there. Chief Tuck-A-Toe, who lived with his tribe on the west side
of Lakeville Lake, and worked for Mr. Hagerman, came often to the meetings. Religious meetings were held
also in the home of Jefferson Teller. Although most of those whooshing at the Hagerman and Teller home
professed the Methodist faith, others of different creeds united with them.
The Lakeville Methodist Church was built in 1853, being the first church built in Addison Township. It is located
on the NE corner of Milmine and Arch Streets in the village. The first or dedicatory sermon preached in the
Lakeville Methodist Church was by Rev. John Gray in 1856. Many wonderful pastors have filled the pulpit since.
